Peter Carey grew up in Southern California, in a small town surrounded by vineyards and citrus groves, where knives were a common tool that everyone used and carried, even children. He made his first knife in 1997, and his first folder in 2000. After years of working as a contract welder in SoCal, he moved to Texas and became a full-time knife maker and designer in 2006. Today, he sells knives to collectors all over the world.
Kubey is one of the largest manufacturers of high-quality knives at a great price! The company's motto is “An Edge Above the Rest”. By using high-speed CNC machine tools, milling machines, laser cutting and custom hand finishing, the brand focuses on quality workmanship and an innovative approach to design.
CPM S35VN – American martensitic high-alloy stainless steel with a hardness of 59-61 HRC, one of the best steels for blade production. Designed to provide better strength compared to CPM S30V, while maintaining the highest level of corrosion resistance. Manufactured by US Crucible Industries using Crucible® Particle Metallurgy (CPM). The CPM process produces a very homogeneous, high-quality steel with excellent dimensional stability, grindability and toughness compared to steels produced by conventional methods. The chemical composition is balanced to consist of 0.5% niobium (Nb) carbides together with 3.0% vanadium (V) and 14.0% chromium (Cr) carbides. Replacing some of the niobium carbides with vanadium carbides makes the steel about 15-20% harder than S30V without compromising wear resistance, and it is also easier to machine and polish. The improved toughness of CPM S35VN also provides better resistance to edge chipping.
Vacuum & Cryogenic - the steel undergoes a specialized heat treatment process involving two key stages. Vacuum Heat Treatment the steel is hardened in a vacuum environment, which minimizes oxidation and ensures more uniform metal properties. This process increases the strength and structural integrity of the steel. Cryogenic Treatment: After heating, the steel is rapidly cooled to extremely low temperatures, often below -100°C (-148°F). This transformation converts residual austenite into martensite, significantly increasing hardness, wear resistance and overall durability. Thanks to these advanced processes, the steel ensures exceptional performance, offering both razor-sharp edge retention and extraordinary blade durability.
Blade - Wharncliffe type, finished with a stonewashed method to mask minor scratches caused during use. The thickness of the blade ensures high durability, while the high, flat grind gives the cutting edge perfect geometry and extreme cutting performance. Ceramic ball bearings assist in opening the blade with the Dual Thumb Stud on both sides. Upper jimping on the back of the blade, a corrugated thumb rest. The whole is locked with a proven and popular frame lock with a steel inlay to prevent the lock face from wearing off.
Handle - made of titanium 6AL4V, with a perfectly fitting inlay made of Santa Clara Camocarbon composite. The beveled edges of the covers eliminate sharp edges. The grips are screwed to the titanium backspacer, ensuring many years of use. The pivot axis is adorned with a stylized brand logo. The single-position (right) titanium deep carry clip allows the knife to be carried discreetly in the pocket in a tip-up position (with the tip of the blade up).
